This is a hot topic in the skincare industry and one that has been used forever to sell some kind of potion, some 'youth elixir' that promises to banish wrinkles and make skin look younger. Therein lies the problem. Looking younger is not the same as reversing damage caused by neglect, illness, overexposure to pollutants, or injury. Looking younger is not the same as looking healthy and vital. Looking younger is not the aim,...but that's not talked about as much.
The onset of ageing happens gradually and it affects everyone differently. The skincare industry uses ageing as a 'pain point' to sell product, but there is no benefit in making anyone more painfully aware of something that is already an issue.
My answer is many faceted, as holistic skincare is never going to give you a silver bullet, and contrary to any kind of marketing you've seen, watched or been told about, there is no quick fix to sagging skin. I could list the usual ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, collagen enhancers, plumpers, fillers, smoothers, and the list goes on. As we age (or if we abruptly lose a significant amount of body mass) it's going to happen, but the rate at which it happens and the appearance of sagging skin can be altered and improved with simple measures.
What you will need to do is aim several kinds of therapy at the issue.
1st - address the quality of the skin by doing intensive, nutrient-bomb, topical application.
This will not only begin to heal the skin from excessive dryness, flakiness and the general deteriorated collagen, it will also help you 'see results' that will encourage you to do more, because frankly, if you're here because you've noticed your skin is crepey around your face, neck, chest, upper arms, thighs etc... you want to start to see a remedial action work asap, right?! Go big on the topical helpers to help YOU see some results quickly. That's regular (more than once a day) application, not a 'night cream' that's just going to puff up the skin for a few hours the next morning...
2nd - physical exercises that work the underlying fascia, muscle and tissue structure of the area. Fingertip massage is an amazing and probably underused 'tool' in your arsenal of things to assist in moving lymph, blood and essential nutrients into the skin. PLUS, we are connected from toes to scalp with fascia (smooth tendons that are on our muscle structure), and to simply ignore this is harmful for long term health and comfort. Stretch, mobility and ease of movement will benefit you with less stress IN your body, and that shows up as great looking skin. Better posture and movement = healthier and more youthful complexion.
3rd - what you put in your body becomes your body, and it also affects your mind, mood and spirit. Assess what foods you're having that may be causing rapid ageing or deterioration beyond the norm. These can include the common 'culprits' of alcohol, processed sugars, synthetic additives (colour, flavours, sweeteners), excessive dairy, corn, and or, wheat products. Just to name a few...the other side of this is medications, which you may or may not be able to reduce or eliminate. Speak to your GP or specialist about a 'medication reduction program' to see if you can find alternatives to the prescriptions you're on. There are benefits to this kind of tandem goal for you and your healthcare provider, so get them onside, or find one who wants to see you achieve real health.
4th - Assess what foods encourage natural detox mechanisms to work at the optimum, what nutrients boost collagen production and maintenance in the body, and which supplements you can access to support the overall elasticity of your skin. Yep, I'm talking about the Omega fats and natural sources of essentials like Vitamin C (not ascorbic acid or citric acid additives) and Magnesium (in the best bioavailable form of chlorophyll).
So what else can you do?
